Nectar Signature Authentication
Authenticate the floral origin of your honey with confidence.
At Y-Trace, we offer scientifically validated HPTLC Nectar Signature Testing to verify the botanical source of honey. This advanced method provides a reliable way to confirm varietal authenticity, supporting product claims, quality assurance, and premium market positioning.
What is Nectar Signature Authentication?
Nectar Signature Authentication uses High-Performance Thin Layer Chromatography (HPTLC) to identify and confirm the dominant floral source of a honey sample.
Unlike sugar-based testing or pollen analysis alone, HPTLC examines the non-sugar compounds—primarily phenolics—within the honey.
These compounds form a distinctive chemical fingerprint that is traceable to specific nectar sources.

A Science-Backed Approach Developed in WA
This method was developed and validated by researchers at the CRC for Honey Bee Products and the University of Western Australia, in collaboration with international HPTLC specialists. The signature database was created using hundreds of Australian honey samples and is registered with the International HPTLC Atlas.
HPTLC is also used to:
- Detect overheating (5-Hydroxymethylfurfural detection)
- Support raw honey classification
- Measure antioxidant content
- Support the identification of native bee or honeypot ant honey
